She is the daughter of Dennis Alan Taylor, a former executive in the banking industry and Jennifer Marina Joy, a psychologist who is approximately half English and half Spanish. Her father is an Argentinean who has Scottish and English ancestry is also her mother. Her mother is Spanish and English. The four siblings of Taylor-Joy are from her father's ex-married partners. The family was within Buenos Aires up until Taylor-Joy reached the age of six, later moving to Victoria district of London. Taylor-Joy said that the relocation was traumatic and she refused to learn English in the hope of go back to Argentina. Her school had to change to Northlands in order to attend Hill House. She then enrolled at Queen's Gate School, where she was a dancer and also performed in productions. She left high school at 16 to focus on her acting profession. Since her early years, Taylor-Joy knew that she wanted to pursue a career as an actress. the dream became a reality when she was approached for a modeling gig by Sarah Doukas the founder of Storm Management.
